Beeswax

Scientific name
Apis mellifera

History of ingredient/fun facts

Beeswax is a completely natural substance produced by honeybees. It is secreted by worker bees from specialized wax glands on their abdomen and can come in a variety of colors depending on the bees diet. Beeswax has been used by humans for thousands of years, with evidence of its use in ancient Egypt in cosmetics and ointments

Clinical uses

Beeswax makes a protective barrier on the skin while still allowing it to breathe. It is hypoallergenic, making it an ideal choice for babies with sensitive skin. It is often used in creams and ointments to treat diaper rash or dry skin patches on babies. Studies have found that beeswax-based creams help prevent diaper rash in infants. Beeswax also promotes tissue regeneration and can speed up the healing process for minor cuts and burns.
