History of plant/fun facts

Calendula’s vibrant flowers, also named Solis Sponsa, or Bride of the Sun, originated in southern Europe and the eastern Mediterranean region, and have been used since the first century CE as a remedy for multiple household ailments. Calendula has long been known for its ability to heal skin ailments and reduce inflammation and as a remedy for cracked skin from breastfeeding.

Clinical uses

Calendula's bioactive compounds promote wound healing, and improve skin elasticity by stimulating fibroblast migration and increasing granulation tissue production in damaged skin. Compounds in calendula have been shown to reduce skin melanin content, improving age spots, and regulate sebum levels, reducing acne. Calendula is a safe and effective treatment for cracked nipples during breastfeeding, with multiple studies showing faster resolution of inflammation in wound when calendula is applied.
